What is Intuit Sync Manager & How Does it Work?

Intuit Sync Manager is a program that works with the products of QuickBooks Desktop running on the Microsoft Windows. This exceptional product runs in the background on computers, and cannot be uninstalled or you cannot prevent it from running.

It can easily swap information between a version of data and QuickBooks desktop database that is saved into the Intuit cloud servers. The changes in desktop data will be sent to the cloud, as well as changes made to that cloud copy of data will be sent back to the desktop.

Furthermore, it allows the cloud-based add-on products to get the work done with desktop data. Such applications which are written by the third-party developer are Fundbox and TSheets. Such product features are integration with Intuit 1099 e-file service as well as recurring credit card payments feature in the QuickBooks Merchant Services.

The Intuit was trying to develop a unified service which would be simple, easy for all the cloud developers to use as well as to access the desktop. Unfortunately, Intuit got to know that it was not a simple task, and for several reasons decided that they will not support this service.

It is a sole method that an online program can use to access the desktop data. Moreover, it also provides a “web connector” that developers can easily use, and many developers have developed their own “sync” tools, such as Tallie and Bill.com.

Intuit Sync manager & Third-Party Add-Ons

It is the most important thing to note that not all of the apps that work with the QuickBooks use Intuit Sync Manager. If one has a cloud-based app which exchanges the data with the desktop database then they need to talk to the developer to know if they use Intuit Sync Manager. If they do, then it is the time to find out what their next plans are to continue supporting the QuickBooks product, or if they are about to drop the support.

Intuit Sync Manager & Intuit Apps/Services

Intuit has several ways for the cloud apps as well as services to work with QuickBooks desktop data. Below mentioned are some of the apps:

  • Intuit Payroll

Full-Service Payroll and Online Payroll use the Intuit Sync Manager to post complete information to the desktop file. Once the service ends you will still be able to use that older method of using IIF files to import the payroll data.

  • Recurring Credit Card Payments in the QuickBooks Merchant Services

It is the only feature in QuickBooks Merchant Services which uses it is “recurring credit card payments” feature.

  • 1099 e-file Service

Intuit’s website was a bit ambiguous about this. You can use this service via the current tax season.

  • View My Paycheck

This app uses Intuit Sync Manager for some administrative functions. The Intuit has a plan to offer support for those features in another way.

  • Integration with Square

Intuit had own integration app which used Intuit Sync Manager, that won’t be updated. Though, they have an exclusive arrangement with a third-party provider known as CommerceSync to take over this function.

  • American Express ReceiptMatch

There is no replacement available to integrate your American Express OPEN account and ReceiptMatch service with the QuickBooks desktop.
